Watch-night Bell at Senryuji Temple

If you are visiting Fukuoka on new year's eve, you could toll the watch-night bell at temples near Tenjin.

Senryuji temple is located at 5 chome, Watanabe-dori, and its bell is rung 108 times on new year's eve.

20 to 30 foreign visitors also take part in ringing the bell every year.

Visitors must wait their turn to ring the bell. They also pray before and after ringing it. The sound of the bell echoes for a long time all over the temple.

The bell was a gift from Saiganji temple in South Korea in 1990 as a symbol of friendship between the two countries.

Hold the wooden hammer and strike the bell as shown.
