All About Tenjin

Tenjin is the biggest commercial district in western Japan. The main street (Watanabe-dori Avenue) runs from south to north and has many department stores and shopping malls along it. Also, there are 600 meters of shopping amenities underground.

With the annual average temperature of 17.2Ž (in 2007), Tenjin is relatively warm. Subways and retail buildings are connected by an underground path, so that you can enjoy shopping without worrying about the outside weather.

Tenjin is very accessible. It takes only 11 minutes by subway from Fukuoka Airport, which hosts many international airlines and acts as a egateway to Asia.f In addition, it is easily accessible by trains and buses from anywhere in Kyushu.

Within the vicinity of Tenjin, there are important historical sites such as the ruins of Fukuoka castle or Koro-kan (an ancient diplomatic guesthouse), parks, and shrines. It is also known for its many festivals such as Hakata Gion Yamakasa in July, Dontaku Port Festival in May, and Asian Month in September.

In Tenjin, you can enjoy fresh vegetables and seafood caught right from the Sea of Genkai. You can also enjoy Motsunabe (beef or pork hotpot) or Hakata ramen from the many yatai (food stalls) along the street.

Tenjin is a compact city with everything within a short walking distance.
